Force Of Nature
Reiki Master Practitioner Laura Espin explains how the healing art could change your life
You may have heard of Reiki through a friend, online or perhaps you’re reading about it here for the first time.
The word Reiki simplified means Universal Energy. It is an ancient Japanese energy healing modality founded and brought to us by Mikao Usui since the early 1920s and has become increasingly recognised within Western cultures over the years.
Reiki is for everyone! It is non-invasive and suitable for people of all ages including children and animals. It brings balance to our emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. There’s no requirements when it comes to Reiki, just a willingness and openness to receive.
With growing interest in holistic health, Reiki practitioners are no longer primarily found in healing fields at festivals, in fact it’s just as available within hospitals, GP Practices, salons and even people working from home.
Some of the benefits of Reiki include relaxation; it reduces stress, anxiety and depression; improves sleep, eases muscle tension; promotes self love, self compassion and restores inner calm. Reiki is a complementary therapy that can be used alongside medical treatments but is not to replace them.
A Reiki practitioner acts as a channel using their hands for the Reiki energy to flow through, some practitioners use hand placements upon the body and others may prefer a hands off approach whilst working within your energy field. You remain fully clothed, often laying on a couch or seated upon a chair.
Reiki is always about your own experience, however you may feel hot or cold sensations, tingling, pressure, you may feel deeply relaxed or energised, you could fall asleep and even snore! You may laugh, cry, twitch or you may not feel anything at all.
Within my own experience of Reiki I often describe it as ‘a massage for the soul’. I believe it gives us the space to feel within, a moment to pause our busy minds and recharge our vital energy.
So why Reiki? Because we all need a bit of support sometimes, our lives are often busy and our well being can take a bit of a backseat. Reiki offers us an empowering process that allows us to manage our natural health, alleviating symptoms, reducing stress and releasing energetic blocks.
