New Zealand
New Zealand is a popular destination for those once-in-a-lifetime holidays
Life feels a world away from the midst of 2020, when we were gripped by a fear of Covid and living a somewhat restricted life. Thankfully, the majority of us have returned to a far more recognisable lifestyle.
For the travel industry, the summer of 2022 feels like a period of transition. With the previous two summers largely dominated by the ‘staycation’, the delayed foreign holidays of 2020 and 2021, alongside the newer bookings for 2022, are finally becoming a reality.
“Big trips are once again possible,” says Emma Baker of Holsworthy Travel. “Families are being reunited with loved ones in Australia and New Zealand, and people are really starting to look at those once-in-a-lifetime holidays again.
“As an agent, New Zealand is my favourite place to book; it’s just such an incredible place! There is a real sense of optimism about finally helping people to see the world once again.”
Those large-scale holiday plans are of course a dream for many of us, but what if you only have a very vague idea of what you want? How to you begin to plan that incredible trip?
If you’re starting to think about a big holiday and don’t know where to start, Emma has a few great starting points.
What are you aiming to get out of your holiday?
Emma says: “One of the most important questions to ask yourself is ‘What do I want to get out of this break?’ If you’re looking for an adventure, then you want to go somewhere with experiences and activities. If you want to relax, you may be looking for more of a beach-based location. Do you want to be able to travel around and see plenty of places or are you looking to base yourself in one location? These are really important questions as your holiday selection will revolve around your answers.”
Think about where you want to go
“The majority of people that I see will already know where they want to visit. If you’re not sure on the location, then looking at other factors first is a great way to help you pinpoint the right location for your break,” says Emma.
Decide on the time of year for your trip
“The time of year will most certainly eliminate certain places from your list – if you’re going somewhere for a certain experience, then the season will be an important factor.”
Consider the duration of your holiday
“Will you be going for two weeks? A month? A two week break is probably going to rule out New Zealand or Australia, as you would ideally want more time – you’ll need to think carefully about the time you have available to travel and what is possible during that time period.”
Are you willing to drive whilst abroad?
“The answer to this will probably depend very much on your answer to the first question above; if you want to see lots of different places in a location with little public transport, then you will likely need to hire transport and be willing to drive. If you’re heading somewhere less remote and well-connected, then public transport may well suit you better.”
Finally – what’s your budget?
“There are plenty of ways to work with a budget and create a bespoke package that works for you. However, you’ll need your budget in mind when looking at your options for any holiday so that you can get that bespoke package in place.”
With the above in mind, it makes sense to contact an experienced travel agent if you are looking to book your dream trip. Not only can they guide you through the selection process and provide you with plenty of options, but they will also be able to support you with any changes that may need to be made to your holiday package. Emma at Holsworthy Travel is more than happy to help.
And as for the summer of 2022 – Emma has some final tips in mind!
“Be prepared for the airport! Plenty of us haven’t been in an airport environment for some time. Remember to read the requirements for your luggage and be prepared for the usual security checks. And one last big thing – check your passport is valid well in advance of your trip! Happy holidays!”
