Watch films under the stars at Plymouth Arts Cinema’s unique Open Air Cinema by the sea. Plymouth Arts Cinema has announced the films that will be shown this summer, at the spectacular waterside venues of Tinside Lido and Royal William Yard. Plymouth Arts Cinema has been taking its cinema on tour each summer for a sell-out series of events since 2012. The Independent recently featured this beloved feature as a Plymouth top Summer attraction for 2019.
Our opening weekend at Tinside Lido (1-3 August) is a chance to catch the cinematic perfection of Bergman and Bogart in the classic of the golden age of cinema, Casablanca. Dust off your vocal chords for the South West's favourite film, Fisherman's Friends and finally, get out your feather boa and dress to impress for the very bright, very funny and very wonderful Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
We are back at Tinside for August Bank Holiday weekend with a selection of films which really will have something for everyone. Friday night chills will be delivered by classic shocker, Alien - 40 years old and still as terrifying. Saturday night is your chance to see audience favourite, Bohemian Rhapsody and we round off the weekend with the perfect film for the perfect location, Hitchcock's The Birds - hold on tight to your pasty!
Our big weekend at Royal William Yard (12-14 September), opens with one of the years' biggest blockbusters, Captain Marvel. What better way to celebrate Friday 13th than by donning your favourite fishnets and joining us in a Time Warp to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We finish the summer with our second screening of Bohemian Rhapsody, just in case you missed it or want one more chance to celebrate the brilliance of Freddie Mercury and Queen.
The film events run from Thursday 1 August to Saturday 14 September. Tickets at Royal William Yard cost £9 (bring your own chair). Tickets for Tinside are £10, (chairs will be provided for everyone). VIP tickets at all venues are £18.50 and include a chair and blanket in the VIP area, a packet of Portlebay popcorn and a drink (to choose from a glass of Prosecco, a Summerskills Ale or a Luscombe’s soft drink).
Tickets will go on general release at 1pm on Tuesday 18 June. Advance ticket booking for all the events is recommended, available from Plymouth Arts Cinema at www.plymouthartscentre.org or at our Box Office (Tavistock Place, PL4 8AT / 01752 206 114, open Tue-Fri: 5-8.30pm, Sat: 1-8.30pm).
