May 5th 2018 will be the fiftieth anniversary of the closure of Tavistock North railway station and the departure of the last train from the town. To mark the occasion, Tavistock Heritage Trust is proud to present a commemorative walk led by local railway historian Stephen Fryer.
The walk will start at 2.00pm outside the town hall and will guide you through the history of the railway and the infrastructure it has left behind (including a rare opportunity to look inside the old ticket office!). Stephen will also point out the various ways the railway changed the town itself, including the construction of Drake Road.
Tickets cost £5 (under 16s free) and can either be bought on the day or through PayPal on our website: www.heritageintavistock.org/events
If you're interested in Tavistock's railway history, Stephen will be giving a talk that evening alongside former Tavistock railwayman Bernard Mills. See here for details: https://www.facebook.com/events/238096303418605/
