Sheepstor Open Gardens - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June - Currently 11 sites have offered to open their gates to be scrutinised by the great British gardening public, and refreshments will be served at 3 locations during the two days. It also coincides with the national "Cherishing Churchyards Week" and St Leonard's Church will be participating. Entry tickets plus accompanying map showing the open gardens will be on sale at the Village hall on the two days, and free parking in the front field of Hellingtown Farm. There will be plant sales (my thanks to Burrator residents who responded to my pleas in the local media to think of us when dividing up their perennials) at various sites too. Entry is free for all those under 14 years old and there will be a treasure hunt. Free local parking is provided. All proceeds will be going to the Village Hall, which needs £1000+ annually just for service payments. The weird weather we've had this autumn and winter so far, with everything coming out well ahead of its normal time, could well result in us being into autumn colours by then (!) but whatever, you will be able to have a good nose around to see what fellow gardeners have been up to. None of the participating gardeners are 'yellow garden scheme' subscribers, or even aspirers, but all enjoy their gardening, albeit in differing ways, and look forward to sharing their successes and failures with you all. Please put that w/e in your diary to come and give Sheepstor a visit. After the last event we got a mention on the BBC Radio 4 "Start the week" as a fine example of community altruism so feel the vibes and be part of that process.
