Whether you are a beginner or if you have a little more experience at using pastels, this inspiring, creative day will be a treat.
Iain Grant is an established pastel artist. He will help you explore the versatility of soft pastels and pastel pencils. He will share techniques with you and help you as you create your own drawings. Try your hand at a 30minute pastel drawing out in the garden (weather permitting) to help you loosen up and see just how well pastels adapt to being a sketching medium.
Bring along a subject that inspires you and work with Iain to capture the essence of it using pastels. Of course, the Garden House is an inspiration in itself, so there will also be plenty of material available to work from, including Iain’s own reference materials.
There are ten places on this course, to make sure Iain has time to share with everyone so you learn as much as you can from the day.
You’ll need to bring your own materials, although Iain will bring some spare pastels and pencils and a variety of surfaces suitable for pastel. You may also use some wet techniques, so if you can, please bring a couple of old medium to larger brushes. Pastel painting can develop into mixed media, so if you think you are likely to branch out please also bring watercolour, gouache, or even acrylic. It would be a shame to waste the opportunity to get creative!
