The church of St Michael the Archangel Chagford, is holding a Crib Festival over the weekend of November 26th & Sunday 27th.
Over the centuries, Christmas Cribs (Nativity scenes) have been created around the world and are displayed during the Christmas season in religious buildings, private homes and public spaces. They can be very simple, home-made and small, or on a much grander scale. But each one has its own way of depicting what is arguably the ‘greatest story’. We will be displaying more than 50 Christmas Cribs in the church, which have been loaned by many local people. They range from a tiny one which could fit inside a ping-pong ball to a large one made of re-cycled materials - and everything in between. Some are made by talented artisans, some by children; they are in every state from lovingly shabby to pristine condition and come from many corners of the world. This is a new venture for Chagford and it is hoped that many visitors will come to view these cribs, at the same time as raising funds for our beautiful and historic church, as well as visiting this special Dartmoor town. Opening times are: Saturday November 26th 10.00 am – 5.00 pm and Sunday November 27th 11.00 am – 5.30 pm. The Crib Festival will close with the Advent Carol Service at 6.00 pm, to which everyone is warmly welcome; listen to the traditional, beautiful and haunting music of Advent to prepare you for this very special season.
