The Ockment Centre, Okehampton will come to life on the 23rd October with a playful and exciting exhibition of experimental art and craft in the Links Room. There will be drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles and sculpture on display from the Art for All project in Okehampton.
The exhibition celebrates one year of a project that aims to promote health and wellbeing by learning new creative art skills. The project is run by West Devon Art Workshops and funded by Okehampton United charities and the National Lottery.
Organiser Andy Cairns said “Over the last year we have demonstrated in practice the benefits of taking up a creative hobby - we have seen people who hadn’t done any art since childhood growing in confidence as they discover abilities they never knew they had. This is reflected in the richness and diversity of work on display and by the enthusiasm of friends and family of participants for the show.
Participant representative Allie Cole added “The social aspect of the classes is very important too- many participants say how they look forward all week to coming along. The atmosphere is so friendly and nurturing.”
The exhibition opens at 6:00pm on Tuesday 23rd October with a celebratory event including refreshments. It is then open each day 10am to 4pm from Wednesday to Friday and 10am to 1pm Saturday 27th October.
