St. Andrew’s C of E Aided Primary School, Buckland Monachorum has just completed a two-year European Erasmus+ Project called SHAPE. This project has focused on designing, developing and implementing sports training modules and sharing best practice in sports and physical education across Europe for sports coaches, teachers and students. Modules explored the delivery of sports skills, coaching, fundamental skills and biomechanics in sports. A website has been created to share best practice in sports along with access to a mobile app link to each module.
During the project a group of St. Andrew’s children travelled to Lithuania along with a group from Buckland Monachorum Cricket Club. Justin Jones, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Project partners were impressed with the amazing sports abilities displayed by our pupils; despite being the youngest in the project, all our children were able to compete to a very high standard with senior students. They demonstrated skills and shared best practice in hockey and cricket as well as learning new skills from others.”
“The relationship built up with project partners has been lasting and language proved no barrier as partners spoke great English, enabling St. Andrew’s pupils to share skills confidently.”
The project was funded entirely by The UK National Agency for Erasmus+ which is a partnership between the British Council and Ecorys UK. The project provided over £16,000 to St. Andrew’s which has been used to develop facilities and provision for sports and physical education at the school.
