SAMA 2020 Ride of Respect Falkland Isle
SAMA (South Atlantic Medal Association) - To Respect, remember and honour all who fell for SAMA 82 because they are not forgotten.
A team of three veterans on motor bikes are covering the whole of the UK from Whitley Bay as far south as Buckland Monachorum where they held a small service around the commonwealth grave of Cpl Jeremy Smith RM earlier this month. There was a good turnout of over 30 around the grave with some residents and parish councilors. The haunting last post with reveille was played by a bugler, and a minute's silence remembered the sad loss of a lad who was just 23 years old. Then 24 motorbikes started up in Buckland village led by the original three veterans, before making their way to Western Mill Cemetery, accompanied by a colourful, noisy farewell with many residents watching from their doorways and windows.
The undertaking is supported by retired service personnel from 2 Para, Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, Royal Marines, Royal Navy, Royal Engineers, Royal Signals, Gurkha Rifles, Army Catering Corp, Royal Army Medical Corp and Army Air Corp.
