Men’s Walk is a flagship fundraising event for the charity and the hospice hopes to see over 1,000 people taking part this year to raise the vital funds needed to continue running its weekend patient care and to keep beds open on its ward.
The event returns to Double Locks on Saturday 12 March and, as the charity’s first live mass participation event since the outbreak of the pandemic, it promises to be a special day for all involved.
Due to the impact of the pandemic on the charity’s income, Hospiscare was forced to launch a £1 million fundraising appeal last November to save its specialist services from drastic cuts.
Members of the community can step out to help save Hospiscare’s services by registering for the eight-mile fundraising walk before 9th March and pledging to raise £50 in sponsorship.
Men’s Walk, sponsored by Wilkinson Grant, is renowned for its triple perks – a pint, a pasty and the rugby – and all of these well-loved elements will return for 2022, courtesy of Exeter Brewery and Chunk of Devon.
Martin Stokke, Senior Events Fundraiser for Hospiscare, says “This will be the first live event we’ve been able to hold since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020 and we couldn’t be more excited for it.
“Men’s Walk brings people together for a fantastic day out, with a brilliant atmosphere – and of course to enjoy a pint, a pasty and the Six Nations rugby in aid of an amazing cause.
“As well as participants walking in memory of loved ones, many people use the event as an opportunity to reunite with old friends and we know that this year’s Men’s Walk will be a special day for many people – especially after being unable to come together last year and as 2022 marks the hospice’s 40th anniversary.”
