Immersion has 4 high quality VR headsets
Immersion Virtual Reality Centre opened 6 months ago in the centre of Okehampton.
Since its launch, it has become a community hub offering a social space for both experienced lovers of gaming and Virtual Reality novices to try out new technology and games.
Immersion has 4 high quality VR headsets with over 50 top games, virtual escape rooms, group adventures, experiences and education titles to be enjoyed. Gamers can play solo or multiplayer, versus or collab, with a wide range of genres for all gamers.
Frequent tournaments are organised to compete against like-minded gamers. There have been VR golf tournaments, Fifa, Rocket league Fortnite, Warhammer and more with winners displayed on a tournament winner’s trophy and winning a free Virtual Reality session.
The centre also has retro arcade machines where you can relive your youth playing Pacman, Space Invaders, Gauntlet and hunderds more retro classics.
In support of mental health month, Immersion offered huge discounts on VR meditation sessions where users can escape and explore the ocean, space, or unwind and relax on tranquil lakes and beaches - all with a 4k display and music.
Immersion is a great social space that also hosts sessions for local groups such as Who Let the Dads Out, children educated at home and birthday parties, as well as gifted and talented mornings where local schools are invited to learn about coding through Lego robots. Check out Immersion’s Facebook page for upcoming events to get involved in.
Owner Ryan Arthurs also runs South West Coding, which goes out to local schools to provide coding, animation and Lego robot building clubs. There are also sessions providing these opportunities for children run in the evenings and during holidays at the Okehampton Immersion site.
Ryan, previously a Sports’ Coach, clearly enjoys providing opportunities for young people. “It is great to offer something different for the community. Usually people have to travel to Exeter and Plymouth to access new technologies. We now have in Okehampton some of the best gaming facilities in the South West and want to keep increasing what we have to offer here. With the new train service from Exeter, it also offers another reason to come to Okehampton and see what we have on offer."
Immersion is involved in Okehampton Sport Week in collaboration with OCRA. Ryan is passionate that Virtual Reality can offer something different for everyone. “Virtual Reality enables people that may not want to access traditional sports to be active and engage with new activities. With Virtual Reality you can try skiing, mindfulness, bowling as well as our usual club session and a special golfing competition on Sporting Sunday. Come down and give it a go. Visitors are always welcome to come in, have a chat and see what we are about.”
Okehampton Sports and Fitness Week is running from July 17th at venues around Okehampton. Immersion is open every day; call 01837 847761 for more details.
