Funding remains available to support communities adjusting to new ways of operating because of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Dartmoor National Park Authority launched its Coronavirus Community Support Grant (CCSG) in March to provide rapid funding to organisations in places affected by the pandemic.
Grants of up to £500 are available to support the most vulnerable and tackle social/economic impacts of the virus.
The deadline for applications is Friday 29 January.
Since its launch, the Authority has granted more than £18,000 to around 40 organisations; helping thousands of people in what has been an incredibly challenging time.
The money has gone towards social networks for young people by young people, online arts platforms, vegetable box deliveries, the supply of personal protection equipment, telephone support for those living alone, and much more.
Volunteers have dedicated more than 20,000 hours of their own time to supporting those most in need.
Authority Chair Pamela Woods said: “I am delighted we have been able to support so many of Dartmoor’s residents with this fund. On behalf of the Authority I want to take this opportunity to thank the many dedicated organisations and volunteers who have worked admirably throughout the pandemic to help their communities.
“We want people to know that the Authority continues to be here for them and we don’t want any to miss out – so please, do contact us so we can help you get some financial support for your community.”
Authority Chief Executive Kevin Bishop said: “This fund was created specifically to help communities and those most vulnerable to the impacts of the pandemic. We are really pleased to know it is achieving exactly that.
“Opportunities remain for organisations to apply for a cash boost; something could prove to be a vital lifeline for people living in isolated communities, or are struggling with things many of us take for granted, such as access food deliveries or medical supplies. But the clock is ticking and we urge those who have not yet applied to act quickly – there is nothing to lose but plenty to gain.”
Examples of eligible projects/activities or items include:
• Support for vulnerable persons (for example, delivery of food and medicines, practical support for people living alone).
• Project development costs (for example printing of leaflets or developing online information).
• Transport related initiatives focused on safe community responses to the pandemic
• Essential supplies that support community-based responses (for example personal protective equipment).
• Projects focusing on community recovery.
• Projects focusing on community resilience and new initiatives arising because of the pandemic.
Applications are accepted from constituted and not-for-private-profit voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector groups and organisations, town/parish councils, charities or businesses, or a combination of these groups working together.
Groups, small local businesses, and individuals without their own separate bank account may also apply but will need a recognised body acting on their behalf as guarantor or as the holder of the funding.
