New walks, taken at a steady pace and aimed at people who are looking to improve their health, will be launched this autumn by the Connecting Actively with Nature (CAN) project and the Tamar Valley AONB team.
Starting on Tuesday 4th September, weekly morning walks will take place in Bere Alston, initially for 12 weeks to gauge the level of interest and support.
Valerie Darwall, Project Officer for the Tamar Valley AONB, who is supporting the walks programme, says; “While the free walks are aimed at people over 55, they are suitable for all (everyone is welcome); we just ask that you have a good pair of walking shoes or boots, for your comfort. We are delighted to be able to offer a series of easy 30-minute walks in Bere Alston, I’m looking forward to getting more active myself!”
On each walk there will be two fully trained walk leaders, giving all the support and encouragement you’ll need. In addition, each walk will finish at Hope Cottage Cafe, where walkers can enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee.
Ann Marcer, walk leader, said; “At the Community Wellbeing event held at the start of the year in Bere Alston, I had a few enquiries from people from the village who said they would be keen for a walking group to be set up locally, so here we are! It will be great to explore this area more.”
The weekly walks will take place every Tuesday, starting on 4th September. The first walk will start from Pilgrim Drive’s car park, Bere Alston, PL20 7DB, at 10am.
